Dennis Hopper on the Johnny Cash Show.

To round-off the weekend here’s a wonderful clip of a dishevelled Dennis Hopper reciting Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If”, on the Johnny Cash Show in 1970. This was at the height of his drug and booze years, which would eventually drive him to the edge of madness. It also illustrates how things have changed on T.V. can’t imagine something like this happening now in the middle of a prime-time entertainment show. Thanks to Dangerousminds.net for this…

  1. He clearly liked the poem and recited it often on stage. We’re fortunate this performance was captured to remind us. Good stuff!

  2. This is brilliant! An actor reading a poem on a chat show, wouldn’t see that nowadays.
